Memories
William Ameiss Rev. Dr. October 27, 2017

Dear Jane:  I'm Ed's cousin Bill. I talked to you briefly in November of 2014 when I had received the announcement of your upcoming marriage. I was unable to join you and Ed and family members at that time because of schedule commitments.  Once again I find myself in the same position, with schedule committments.  Iguess I'm not as retired as I thought.   Dorothy Andreck sent information to one of my cousins in St. Louis and they were kind enough to share it with my wife and myself. So I can at least greet you and family members in this way.

First of all, may our gracious Lord be with you in these moments of incredible loss. May He strengthen you and keep you in His strong arms.  Please share my warmest thoughts of care and support for all the kids, both yours and Ed's.  I had the chance years ago to spend a short time in Ed's house. It was a great few days and we did much catching up.  I worked with Linda Ista in youth ministry over 30 years ago. I've often wondered if she has stayed active in music. Her youth choirs of that day were really wonderfull! I was pleased to bring her youth choir to Concordia University for a Northern Illinois District Youth Event!

In my grade school years, I "roomed" with Ed, sharing a bedroom in his family home, before my family moved into the first floor of their duplex. Ed was in High School at the time. For a bit over a year, he was my "big brother."  I remember his singing in the choirs at our home church, Grace, Wellston.  Ed's tennor voice was vibrant and powerful.  It was always a joy to hear. I'm sure I've heard him sing Mallottes Lord's prayer at family weddings at least 10 times and thrilled at each of them!

I was able to vist his brother Tom's wake in St.Louis some 12-14 years ago.  Again a St. Louis relative had let me know of Tom's passing, and fortunately I was at a Council of President's meeting in St. Louis on that very day and was able to meet Tom's family members.  Unfortunately, I found out that Dorothy and Ken, Ed (and then Rosie) had visited earlier and had to leave.

Reading Ed's obituary was a thrill. He accomplished so much that so many of us didn't know, but none of us surprised at. Ed was a wonderful gift from God, to his family, to his community, to his profession, to his church, and to all who came in touch with him.

I'm grateful to have had the good fortune to be a part of his family.

St. Paul's words from I Thessalonians come to mind. "But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concering those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Hims those wwho sleep in Jesus. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
Ed did believe that Jesus died and rose again. He believed it. He sang it. He lived It.   May that comfort truly be with you and the entire family.

Your in Christ, whom we all serve

Bill and Jan Ameiss
